│ Detailed Information File Areas to Display Select Areas │
└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
WILDCAT! has a number of different file areas available for listing. Each
file area is setup with a common theme like DOS utilities, Games, and so
on. This is used to better categorize the wide variety of programs
available today. Selecting this option presents the following sub-prompt.
Areas (1..32) [#, #-#], [A]ll, [L]ist, [S|D|F], [H]elp
Below is a breakdown of the available options.
(1..32) -
Range of file areas available while in this conference. Additional
file areas may exist in different conferences, but only those
configured for this conference will be available for display.
[#, #-#] -
File area(s) you wish to display. You can list several areas by
separating your choices with spaces, or by using a dash between
the two numbers, you can specify a range of areas to be displayed.
For example, to see areas 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 10, you would
enter the command [2 4-8 10].
[H]elp -
Displays this Help screen.
[A]ll -
Use this option to select all available file areas starting from
one to the highest number available in sequential order.
[L]ist -
Displays a list of available file areas with the associated area
number and descriptions.
[S|D|F] -
When listing file areas, you may view the files in three different
formats. These formats are:
[S]ingle Line Mode - Displays filename and description
[D]ouble line Mode - Displays transfer times, file size, D/L's
[F]ull/Detailed Info - Complete display with long description
Each user can set a default method by modifying their user record
in the Main Menu choice, [Y]our Settings. If no method has been
specified on the command line, the default is used. If the user
has not yet set a default, the Double line method is used.
To change the listing on the command line, simply append the
letter S, D, or F to your choice. For example, if your default
display mode is Single line, and you wish to view the areas in
Full/Detailed Information display, you would enter [2 4-8 10F].
Following are examples of each possible file listing mode:

│ Detailed Description Listing Options -Pause- Prompt │
└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
WILDCAT! offers you the ability to perform a wide variety of functions
while listing files to the screen. Most notably is the ability to mark
specific files for download by selecting a number and the not the entire
file name, plus the ability to start the download directly from -Pause-
prompt. Another important aspect of this, is once the download is
complete, you can continue on listing files right where you left off.
Additional commands include displaying detailed information on a specific
file and the ability to view the contents of a compressed file all while
still at the -Pause- prompt.
Once the files have been listed to the screen, you have a number of
options available as shown below in the following sub-prompt.
-Pause- [C]ont, [H]elp, [N]onstop, [M]ark, [D]wnld, [I]nfo, [V]iew, [S]top?
Below is a description of the available options.
[C]ont -
This is the default response, and results in a continuation of
the file listing. Since this is a default, simply pressing
[ENTER] will continue to the next screen full of files.
[H]elp -
Displays this Help screen.
[N]onstop -
This choice continues the file listings, but does not pause
between screens, nor offer the opportunity to [M]ark files.
[M]ark -
This choice allows you to create a queue of files for downloading
while you are listing files to the screen. The real power behind
this option is the ability to select a file number instead of
having to type the entire file name. Since marked file names are
stored in a temporary buffer, they may be viewed and modified as
your listing continues. Choosing this option presents the
following sub-prompt:
Mark File Command [#, #-#], [A]ll, [E]dit/View, [H]elp?
Files may be marked individually or in groups by number. Each
screen numbers the files listed from 1 to the maximum number which
will fit on a single screen display. These numbers are displayed
to the immediate left of the file name and are enclosed in [ ]'s.
To mark files numbered 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 10 you can enter the
command [2 4-8 10]. The mark command is explained in greater
detail after being selected by displaying the help option.
[D]wnld -
Allows you to begin downloading files. If you haven't selected
any files using the [M]ark command, you're asked for the 1st
filename and any additional file names until you have reached the
maximum allowed, or until you enter a blank name. If you have
marked files in the download queue, you are presented with the
following sub-prompt:
You have these MARKED files queued ready for download:
Item File Name File Size D/L Time
---- ------------ --------- --------
[ 1] ALLFILES.TXT 23,993 00:02:44
[ 2] WILDCAT1.EXE 237,229 00:23:19
[ 3] WILDCAT2.EXE 244,122 00:24:44
[ 4] TOMCAT.ZIP 78,375 00:08:11
Total Files Queued D/L Bytes Est time
------------------ --------- --------
4 583,719 00:58:58
What would you like to do:
[D]ownload - Download all marked files.
[E]dit - Edit/View marked files.
[A]dd - Add more files (by name) to the download list.
[G]oodbye - Download all marked files & automatically log-off.
[S]TOP - Return to the Menu Prompt.
Command? [D]
From here you can select one of the above options and continue.
After selecting [D]ownload files, you will be prompted whether or
not to remain online after the transfer is complete or to have
the system automatically log you off after the transfer is
finished. If you've chosen to remain online, you will be
returned to the exact same spot where you left off allowing you
to continue listing/downloading more files.
Should you have difficulties transferring any of the marked
files in the queue, the files not transferred will remain in
the queue for easy re-transmittal.
[I]nfo -
This choice displays information on the selected file in the
Full/Detailed Information mode. After entering in the number
of the file you wish information on, you will be presented with
information similar to the detailed listing above:
[V]iew -
This option is used to look into the contents of an archived or
compressed file such as a .ZIP or .LZH file. You are prompted to
enter in the number of the file you wish to view and then the BBS
will proceed to display the contents of that compressed file.
Various utility programs perform this function in different ways.
In it's simplest form, it will display a list of all the files
contained within this archive. A more advanced function would be
in addition to listing the files, the ability to read the contents
of one of the text files. Plus, be able to select several files
contained within the original archive and download only those
files needed. This function will vary from system to system
depending on what the SysOp has installed.
[S]top -
Stops the file listing display.
